With a population that continues to live longer with chronic illnesses; it is likely that rapid, and dramatic changes will continue to occur in nursing as well as the health care industry. As the profession continues to grow, it will become increasingly important for the nurse to develop skills in both leadership and management roles (Marquis, B. L., Huston, C. J., 2017). For optimal functionality, a great leader most possess both leadership and management skills. Gadner (1990) asserted that integrated leader-managers possess six distinguishing traits. These include. 1) They think long term. 2) They look outward, toward the larger organization. 3) They influence others beyond their own group. 4) They emphasize vision values, and†¦show more content†¦Some examples observed were the leaders expressing how excited they were about the direction the company was taking regarding the responsibility of RNs. This was discussed in front of the RNs, The RNs were observed reacting in a positive way to the changes proposed. My belief is that it was the infectious way the leadership brought about the topic that made the RNs more receptive to the ideas. The way we communicate is the key to any successful relationship. This includes our work relationships as well. In observing the different leadership styles, I believe Democratic Leadership has the most respectful communication. In this style of leadership, the manager asks the staff to be involved in the decision making process, Although the manager still has the final say on an issue, the involvement of staff allows them to feel heard and valued. As the staff feels more valued, they will feel more loyal to the company and their job satisfaction will increase. These factors will all contribute to lower turnover rate for the organization with will then attract qualified applicants. There are many positive outcomes that are attributed to using the Democratic Leadership style. These include: A more positive work environment; because the staff feel more valued, they are more invested in their work. In this environment the staff and management work together to find solutions which results in less conflict over the final decision. The cold animal war There is a fight that has been made public and has steadily been growing. The fight or war as I like to call it, is should animal mills be dealt away with or should they stay where they are? I hear constantly that I should not by an animal from a mill. I am told that we have enough animals in this world. Here is the thing though lots of people enjoy getting a new animal. Especially if that animal is a â€Å"pure breed†. So the argument ensues. There are two clear sides, one side says we should only adopt animals and get them neutered/spayed. The other side says we should be able to buy our pets without anything stopping us. You have a knowledge of who is the parents to this animal and how they were treated. You know if the animal age and you know what kind of health risk you ma y get from the animal. Breeding is said to be superior to adopting and one of those reasons said is that by breeding an animal the animal is pure bred. By having a pure bred animal you can breed more like that animal. You have papers that say your animal is pure bred. Being pure bred is kind of like being an upper class citizen. You get treated better, you get better food, and animal health is treated similar to a humans. Breeders will even tell you around the age your animal will be able to live up to. This is because you have a healthy pure bred animal. You can sell the animal for higher profit. Money makes a big difference and when you can make a profit on animals be it dog shows to selling dairy cows. For example, we know there is such a thing as high quality animals. Especially in our food. One of the most bragged about pure breeding is that the animal is better around. Stronger, higher quality, and less likely to die at a young age. Con-side breeding animals Breeding animals can be harsh for the animals. They could be bred into an animal mill where they are cooped up in cages all day and never get to go out. The animal like chickens, dogs, or cats, etc. Can be bred massively. This is all to have higher production. Which means more money.

Options that Chris has in resolving the dispute a) Chris should talk to Alex and her fellow cooks about the bullying and the ways she feels isolated while she is at work. b) Should seek advice from the person in charge of university workers now that Brian, the supervisor has failed to address the issue and even made it worse by endorsing Alex as the next supervisor after he retires. c) Chris can also seek to resolve the bullying issue via mediation where her request should be made to the manager who will ensure that the complainant reaches an agreement with the accused. d) Chris should seek assistance from a bullying adviser who will most likely suggest the most appropriate way of handling the matter. e) Chris should make a formal complaint to the head of the Human Resource department. This complaint should be well written and detailed so that it can provide sufficient information. Benefits and risks of the options. a) Because one of the options is mediation, Chris should think or needs to be aware of the fact that Alex can refuse to participate or even withdraw from the mediation process. b) Facing the bully is an informal way of resolving the issue, the risk is that Alex will most likely disregard Chriss claims and things might even get worse. c) If Chris makes a formal complaint to the Human Resource director, he might request for further investigation. This is another risk because it will paint a bad picture of the accommodation department especially the kitchen. d) The benefit of visiting a bullying advisor is that he will be able to advise Chris on the best possible solution to handle the matter. This will help in reducing consequences related to rush decisions.
